Throughout this brief there are several areas i would like to explore and many skills i would like to develop. I want to take this project as an opportunity to explore several different aspects of visual communication through developing existing skills and learning new ones.
I have always loved to draw and illustrate and coming from a background of pencil drawing and painting, i would love to incorporate something similar to this in this project. I have seen several illustrations by an artist called Casey Howard. I first saw the illustrations when i became a fan of the band 'avenged sevenfold', as Casey Howard did all the album artwork for some of there albums.
Basically what i want to try and achieve in this project is a development of my drawing skills using different mark making tools and also experimenting with computer generation, and a mixture of the two.
Casey Howard's artwork is what has really inspired me for this project, obviously i have tried to research him and find out more examples of his work and any information on what media he uses to create his images. Trying to gather this research has been one of the most unsuccessful research attempts i have ever done. I have tried searching his name, his art, other related artists the band i know he works with. I have also watched every dvd/documentary i can find on the band to see if Casey Howard is mentioned and so far i have found nothing. All the world seems to know of him is that he did the artwork for the album covers i already have.
I am trying to look at this as a positive as now i am forced to branch out and discover new artists with similar styles. It will give me a good chance to broaden my research and also maybe throw in some more ideas, inspirations and goals for this project.
