I have been trying to find other artists with similar styles to Casey Howard and also been trying to research illustration techniques. During one of my research sessions i stumbled upon a webpage that had an explanation of an interesting illustration technique and an example of a piece created using this technique.

> "i take my photo, scan it into a PC and then connect that PC with a projector.
> then i just project that photo onto a special drawing board (it's an touch LCD screen that digitizes your sketch and renders a digital counterpart)
> carefully drawn the photo with the onion skin from the projector on the drawing board.

> once you're done, you'll have 2 copies, 1 will be a digital image of your sketch on Inkscape or Illustrator (got some complex methods of doing this) and the paper you just drew on.

> then play around with it and since you have a digital copy, try inking it digitally....

it's very simple, you don't need to be an artist for it... just need to know some programming, and how to hold a pencil ^^

this is similar to motion capture."

This is how the technique is explained. It is something i definitely want to try out, i would love to see if i can produce an outcome similar to the standard of these images and at the moment i am open to any suggestions of how to do so.

I know that i do have certain drawing skills already but this project (for myself) is all about developing these skills and combining them with technical skills i have yet to learn. I know a few individuals on the course have used certain computer programmes for a while and certainly know a lot more about them than myself. Obviously these people are a good source of learning and development for myself, i have already approached them and asked them to show me a thing or two on certain programmes which could be very helpful to me. Also i plan to approach the technical team within college and maybe sit in on some illustrator classes and if it is possible try and arrange a few quick one 2 one session were they can start me off with a few things they think could help and then leave me to play around and develop my skills.

Communication technology 2.

Throughout this brief there are several areas i would like to explore and many skills i would like to develop. I want to take this project as an opportunity to explore several different aspects of visual communication through developing existing skills and learning new ones.

I have always loved to draw and illustrate and coming from a background of pencil drawing and painting, i would love to incorporate something similar to this in this project. I have seen several illustrations by an artist called Casey Howard. I first saw the illustrations when i became a fan of the band 'avenged sevenfold', as Casey Howard did all the album artwork for some of there albums.

Basically what i want to try and achieve in this project is a development of my drawing skills using different mark making tools and also experimenting with computer generation, and a mixture of the two.

Casey Howard's artwork is what has really inspired me for this project, obviously i have tried to research him and find out more examples of his work and any information on what media he uses to create his images. Trying to gather this research has been one of the most unsuccessful research attempts i have ever done. I have tried searching his name, his art, other related artists the band i know he works with. I have also watched every dvd/documentary i can find on the band to see if Casey Howard is mentioned and so far i have found nothing. All the world seems to know of him is that he did the artwork for the album covers i already have.

I am trying to look at this as a positive as now i am forced to branch out and discover new artists with similar styles. It will give me a good chance to broaden my research and also maybe throw in some more ideas, inspirations and goals for this project.

Throughout this year i have had the chance to experience many differnet aspects of visual communication. That is exactly what i wanted from this fisrt year so i am quite pleased with how things have gone.

I thought that i was begginning to narrow dowm my options and focus on advertising but since i have learnt so much more about it i realised im not quite ready to sell my soul to a big company.

I think i just need to look at whats on my blog and the things that interest me outside of college, then i'll figure out how i can make a living out of something that makes me happy.
These are a few books that i have been reading lately. The herion diaries by nikki sixx is probably my favourite one at the moment.

This is work from my final project this year. I wanted to get a better understanding of advertising and develop my skills as a creative advertiser.

I realised that it takes a lot of hard work to become a creative advertiser and it the type of job you have to be sure you want to do becuase it's so much effort to get it. I learnt more on this last project than i have on any other and even though it's not been the most enjoyable or fun project it has definatly given me a sense of achievement.

This is my final piece for the first real advertising brief i did. I really enjoyed this project and i decided that i wanted to pursue it further and learn more about the advertising industry and what my role would be within it.

These are a couple more cd covers that I think are visually effective. I want to spend some time devloping my ideas for my album cover because it is probably the best thing that has happened in my life so far. I want to get it right, but even if i mess up somewhere along the line i'l pick myself up and carry on becuase thats utimatley what i want to do with the rest of my life. Make music.

Visual communication is something that i do enjoy but i'm here to get myself security. I'm here to get myself in a situation where i'm qualified to work in a job i love if my music career doesn't go to plan. Now i just need to figure out what job I would love other than being a rockstar :)
